Currambena Primary School and Preschool

Currambena is a democratic school that runs a unique child-centred education program that focuses on involvement of the student body in decision making about school life and the campus. Within that tradition, work on this project began with planning days and investigations that involved the whole student body, through interactive exercises such as the construction of a large scale model, drawing programs and large group presentations. Key challenges addressed by the design include:

• expressing building structure in an explicit and playful way

• creating a traffic-able roof to maintain outdoor play area

• refurbishing and enhancing an existing dilapidated building
